Techy know how? I could use your help on Dan Patmore

30th January 2010

I have a website www.ifihadsuperpowers.com, that's in need of some techy help.

I built this website many moons ago, the idea being that geeks worldwide can complete a simple form and create their own superhero. I wasn't sure if it would generate any traffic, but the idea was, that if it did, I could work on the affiliate links and google ads on the site and suitably improve the design, so the traffic would snowball, I'd perhaps generate a few quid and could potentially sell the site.

It was a pie-in-the-sky long term plan, and so I utilised a 3rd party contact form, that emails me the data, I then manually have to update the list of heroes. This was fine, while I was get half a dozen submissions a month and had plenty of free time.

The site has generated approx 250 visits this last month and about 50 submissions. I don't have the time (or quite frankly the inclination) to manually prepare this level of data (I now have a few months worth) and so I am reaching out to the technically able world.

I am aware that it is quite possible to have the form automatically update a database of information, I just have no clue how to do this. If someone was able to help so the site was pretty much automated I'm convinced the submissions would snowball and the site could grow perfectly well.

If you are able to help, please get in touch, I don't have money, but I can offer you a cut of any money generated through affiliate and google adword revenues in the future. in the interests of honesty, I can make no guarantees what that amount of money would actually be, if anything (this isn't the strongest business case in the world, but a simple asking for help in a small indulgent project).

Cheers
Dan dan@danpatmore.com
