Identity, Isolation and Self - Art by Dan Patmore

Here are a few of my favourite (and darker) paintings. Whilst the theme of 'Identity, Isolation and Self' was not planned, for me these acrylic paintings are summed up by those words, and perhaps a slightly darker time in my mind.

"Abstract Soul" is actually a personal favourite of mine. I was experimenting on a piece of shiny backing paper from a picture frame and came up with this in about five minutes. I used a black marker and spread the paint with my fingers. It's not exactly a master piece, but I'm fond of it. It coyly sits on the back of my chest of drawers but it always catches my eye.

"Identity" is definitely a painting that people find dark. I remember painting it whilst listening to 'Live at the Gyspy Tea Rooms' By Joseph Arthur (a great live recording, well worth a listen). I think I was actually in quite good spirits that day, but this is certainly brooding if not sinister.

Speaking of dark, this is "Death on the Mind". Painted on board canvas the word 'die' is thickly slathered on, I spread it with my fingers and so it is quite an expressive painting.
